Choosing keywords
Google provides a very useful tool to identify what keywords we should target. A keyword is what we type into the search engine to find websites. A keyword can be either a single word or a phrase.
Google dominates the UK search engine market with around 90% of all searches. It therefore makes sense to use their data and tools.

Enter the keywords that you think people are searching for to find you. Google gives you variants of your search and also other suggestions allowing you to identify the best keyword to target. You can sort by column by clicking the heading and to get UK results for the previous month click the local results. There is also a drop down box which allows you to see other information about the keyword, such as how much it may cost per click to advertise in the sponsored links.
We normally target one keyword per page so choose wisely. Filter keywords that are too generalised and would not bring in leads or sales. Common-sense is vital here!
A classic mistake choosing keywords
Target a massively searched keyword which is too broad. Unless you are a big brand or the keyword is very niche, it could take years of hard slog to get to the top.
