Deep Links

Deep linking is a technique used to promote the inner pages of your website. This improves the relevance and authority of your website in the eyes of the search engine and can increase the number of keywords you are found for in the search engines.

There are two types of deep links. The first is internal links which we have already discussed. The second is external deep links which are links to your internal pages from other websites.

In an article from searchenginewatch.com titled SEO Planning for 2011, it says that Google's May Day update caused a significant loss of traffic to websites with a lack of or low number of deep links. This shows you the importance of deep linking.

Techniques which can be used to increase your back links include social bookmarking and article syndication. Most directories only allow you to target links to your homepage, but there are some directories that allow you to link to your internal pages.
