Linking to Authority

intlinks.jpgIt is not just the number of links coming into your website that is important. Links from your website to other websites are also analysed by the search engines. These links will be followed and you can gain some good web page credibility by linking to a relevant authoritative website.

An authority website is a site which is frequented by a huge number of people and has gained popularity by its own merit. Examples are such as newspaper websites, government portals or even, dare I say it, some pages in wikipedia!

Good examples of this are trade associations and member body sites, such as Constructionline for the construction industry or ACCA for a finance website. If you are not a member of a professional body, there are always authority sites on all types of subjects. Look to link with .gov or .edu websites, not just from a links page but from a content page where the link would be relevant and helpful to the reader..

A classic mistake linking to Authority

Don't link to the authority homepage, try and find a page within that site which has the greatest relevance to your product or service.
