Mobile Phone Website

We took a snapshot of 10 of our clients websites to analyse the trend of mobile usage from January 1st - April 1st 2011 and compared this against mobile usage from January 1st - April 1st 2010.

Results

According to tecmark.co.uk, mobile usage is at 8% in January 2011. Whilst this may have a lot to do with facebook, our results are based on actual client websites. This shows a significant increase in mobile phone usage for the internet.

Gartner predicts that in the next three years, more people will access the internet through the mobile as they do through their PC's. (ref)

Mobile website redesign
It is possible to build into a website a detection system which will show a separate, mobile website instead of your normal website when the site is being requested by a mobile phone.
Our statistics show that ipad usage on our 10 client websites is about 33% of all mobile usage in March 2011. Whilst many websites do not need redesigning for ipad due to its size, they do for other mobile phone devices. The screen is much smaller so consideration must be taken into account for such criteria as browsing time, ease of navigation (using finger taps), image sizes, contact forms and general layout.

With the increased usage of mobile phones to view the internet, now is the time to start looking at providing your website users a mobile version of your site.
