The information behind an image
As a minimum each image should also have an alternative description, commonly known as the alt attribute. Whilst there are other bits of information that we can use with an image, such as long description, our preference is to also include a title.
The alt attribute is important for accessibility purposes and should be used as the description of the image for those who cannot see what the image is (including search engines).
The title attribute can be used more in a search engine friendly way if the image is relevant to a keyword you are promoting. Add in your keywords.
Finally, optimise your image names so that search engines get an idea what the images are and keep all your images in one directory.
A classic mistake with images
Simple. Not having any alt tag on images. The National federation of the Blind brought a lawsuit against Target.com over lack of alt tags back in 2006.
