The most important part of your web page
There is a particular part of a web page (or snippet as google refers to them) which is arguably the most important element on it. Not just in terms of letting google know what that particular page is about, but also allowing users to see if your web page will satisfy their search.
The title tag.
The title tag is the text that you see in the top left hand side of your browser, normally above the back and forward button. It does not show on the actual web page itself but this title tag is the link text that you see in google listing as the clickable link through to a website. It is the most important element as it tells Google and the searcher what the topic of your webpage is.
This is not to be confused with a heading tag. A heading is what you see on the page and is probably the second most important snippet on a web page.
A classic mistake with the title tag.
Using the title "Home" or "Homepage". For example, using "Homepage" you are competing with over 10 million other websites trying to drive people into their site using the keyword "homepage". Will this generate a lead for you?
Each page must have its own unique title which should accurately match the topic of that page. Check your titles now and if you are not getting any relevant search engine traffic, this is the first place to start.
