Write more web content
By adding more content to your website you are providing search engines more words to read on your website, which in turn will send you more traffic.
So what do you write about?
We can split the content into a few parts. Information about you, your products and services, Instructional and educational content, testimonials, case studies and then news about you, your products and services. All will add searchable content to your website.
1. Information
These are your normal pages of content which do not often change. Once they are how you like them, they often stay that way for years. Because of this longevity it is important to get them right, making sure the words used reflect your company correctly and are what people are searching for. It is always worthwhile scheduling in periodic reviews of your static content, to add internal links, emphasise or bold keywords etc.
2. Educational / Instructional
Such as frequently asked questions, and how to guides. Similar to static pages in that when they are done they can last a long tim without change..
3. Testimonials
Great for search engines and users (particularly humanistic). These are client written and whether you get many or not, there is no harm in asking. Put them straight on the website when they come in.
4. Case studies
Correctly done this are a great way of adding additional content to your website. The relevancy is obviously great and provides good search engine fodder. The bonus is that this information is of real interest to users.
5. Latest News
This leads itself to a blog and search engines love blogs. By providing regular, unique and relevant content to your website you are increasing the number of words and phrases that search engines index on your website, also improving the authority of your site and increasing the number of visitors. The hardest part is doing it. We have on many occasion removed dates from news items on clients sites as they do not keep up to date with blogs or latest news. The trick is to plan it in, making it routine and with someone being accountable for it. We spend 40 minutes a week updating our blog, newsletter and twitter page.
A classic mistake in adding content
Never copy and paste content from another website onto yours. Duplicated content will not rank you in the search engines.
